David, Goliath & Co.

for 3 actors and 4 musicians

Barock co. co.

Old music is only as dusty and out-of-date as it is played. Four musicians and three actors bring the old days back to life and perform the fun that people had with music around 300 years ago. The concert consists of five stories including one true story about the struggle between David and Goliath, a look into the operating theatres of 1720 and the most important etiquette for fencing and duelling.

For some years now the Kontra-Punkt theatre has been putting on concerts. It started with the children's and youth concerts of the Vereinigten Bühnen in Krefeld/Mönchengladbach, then the same series was continued with the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker. Staged music is not only a welcome change, it also creates much more understanding on the part of the audience than traditional concert forms. Things which only professionals have understood in the past are now understandable to the "normal" audience.

In David, Goliath and Co., both the actors and the musicians are theatre players. The courtly divertissement is revitalised: the desire to play with things is emphasised, the music regains its former simplicity.
